The Herefordshire Pomona - Notes & Errata

Notes

How is the CD used? - The CD does not autorun! Open a directory viewer (such as Windows Explorer on a PC) on the CD. Then double-click on the file index.htm (which may show as index depending on your viewer settings).

There have been two cases reported of "blank CDs". However, when the CDs were returned they have checked out perfectly. In both instances a PC with Windows 98 was being used. Microsoft provide a guide to How to Troubleshoot CD-ROM Read Issues which is very comprehensive. (This Knowledge Base article has links to similar guides for other versions of Windows). Please check out this troubleshooting guide before reporting a "problem" CD.

Are the images on the CD true to the colours in the original Herefordshire Pomona? - This, unfortunately, is the wrong question! The question is only sensible if your monitor is colour calibrated and, for lcd screens, if you are sitting directly in front of the screen. MAN does have both greyscale and colour calibration for all the plates so that when a printed version of the Herefordshire Pomona is produced there will be an exact colour match with the original.

Is it possible to see all of a plate on a screen without having to scroll vertically? - There are two possible answers to this. One is to use a browser which allows a scaled view of the web page. (Internet Explorer can do this but only with a plug-in toolbar. One such can be obtained from here). The other solution is to change the screen resolution to give a larger display area. The longest plate - plate 15 - measures 1240 pixels so the vertical resolution needs to be sufficient to include this as well as the web browser window furniture (horizontal scroll bar, menu and status bars etc). Not many monitors can provide this resolution. With both solutions the plates will be displayed at a reduced size - the plates display at full size on a monitor displaying at 96 dots per inch.

Is there a desktop icon for The Herefordshire Pomona CD? - There is a desktop icon on the CD which can be found in the folder content/pics and is called pomona.ico

Errata

There are a number of links from the variety lists which lead to the wrong description. (The links to descriptions from the list of plates and at the bottom of each plate are correct). When this happens the quickest way to get to the correct description is as follows:-

The links to the following descriptions are wrong. . .
